Clinical History: Post menopausal breast cancer patient receiving Tamoxifen therapy, routine examination
Interpretation:
NILM
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Loose aggregates of "naked" nuclei. Nuclear molding is seen, without cytoplasm.
Explanatory Notes: Naked nuclei should not to be mistaken for endometrial cells. They are seen in a variety of conditions (atrophy, hormone therapy, antiestrogen therapy.) They are most likely naked squamous cell nuclei. In women taking hormone therapy or nonsteroidal antiestrogen compounds, these cells "stand out" against the background keratinized epithelial cells.
Follow-up: Asymptomatic after 3 years
