Interpretation:
Endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS)
Cytomorphologic Criteria:
Numerous abnormal glandular cells arranged singly, in small aggregates and pseudostratified strips. Nuclei are round, oval or elongated with irregular nuclear membranes and small nucleoli. Note the mitotic figure.
Explanatory Notes:
In liquid-based preparations, AIS often presents with pseudostratified strips of cells having short "bird-tail" arrangements.
