Cytomorphologic Criteria:
Syncytial arrangement (loss of polarity and cell borders) suggests carcinoma in situ . The cytoplasm is "non-metaplastic" Note also that the abnormal nuclei contain grooves- a feature that is not infrequently seen in HSIL.
