Squamous cell carcinoma
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Tumor diathesis and lysed blood provide the background for numerous small, hyperchromatic malignant cells. Two large nuclei with coarsely granular chromatin and prominent nucleoli are consistent with squamous cell carcinoma.
Explanatory Notes: Pleomorphism of shape and size is a feature of invasive squamous cell carcinoma, and is usually more obvious in the keratinizing type.
