NILM: Keratotic cellular changes: parakeratosis
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Squamous pearl comprised of miniature squamous cells with small pyknotic nuclei and orangeophilic cytoplasm.
Explanatory Notes: This is an example of "typical parakeratosis" is a non-neoplastic cellular change as opposed to single or cell clusters that demonstrate pleomorphism of cell size or shape and increased nuclear size and chromasia ("atypical parakeratosis" or "dyskeratosis".
