Atlas Interpretation:
Type of Preparation: Conventional
Magnification: Medium
Interpretation:
NILM: Cellular changes consistent with Herpes simplex virus
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Nuclei showing "ground-glass" appearance. Multinucleation, nuclear molding, and dense eosinophilic intranuclear inclusions surrounded by a halo are also seen.
Explanatory Notes: "Ground-glass" appearance is due to intranuclear viral particles and enhancement of nuclear envelope caused by peripheral chromatin margination.
