Atlas Interpretation:
Type of Preparation: Conventional
Magnification: High
Interpretation:
HSIL
Cytomorphologic Criteria: This flat arrangement of abnormal cells displays features consistent with HSIL. Nuclei are greatly enlarged, vary in size and shape, and contain hyperchromatic, coarsely granular chromatin and irregular nuclear envelopes. Note that the cytoplasm in this case is "non-metaplastic" or "lacy".
Explanatory Notes: While there is significant nuclear size and shape pleomorphism, nucleoli and "tumor diathesis", features that are worrisome for invasive cancer, are absent.
