Interpretation:
NILM: Trichomonas vaginalis
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Trichomonas is a pear shaped, oval, or round cyanophillic organism. Nuclei are pale and eccentrically located. Eosinophilic cytoplasmic granules may be visible.
Explanatory Notes: It is essential to identify one or more of the following- nucleus, eosinophilic granules, flagella (less often seen in conventional smears) in order to distinguish trichomonads from cytoplasmic fragments.
