Atlas Interpretation:
Type of Preparation: ThinPrep/ LBP
Magnification: Medium
Adequacy Description:
Unsatisfactory due to scant squamous cellularity
Cytomorphologic Criteria: Unsatisfactory due to scant squamous cellularity. Groups of endocervical cells are seen as well as debris. An adequate liquid based preparation should have an estimated minimum of 5,000 well-visualized/preserved squamous cells.
Explanatory Notes: This image depicts a representative field of an inadequate ThinPrep specimen. It is to be used as a guide in assessing squamous cellularity of ThinPrep specimens which are suspected of being of inadequate cellularity. Endocervical cells are not counted when assessing squamous cellularity, but squamous metaplastic cells are included in cell estimates. This 10X field indicates unsatisfactory squamous cellularity if it is representative of the overall cellularity of the entire slide.
