Cytomorphologic Criteria: This image was composed to depict the appearance of a 4X field with approximately 1000 cells. It is to be used as a guide in assessing squamous cellularity of conventional specimens. An adequate conventional smear has an estimated minimum of approximately 8,000-12,000 well visualized and preserved squamous cells.
Explanatory Notes: A minimum of 8 4X fields with similar (or greater) cellularity are needed to call the specimen adequate.
